Assignment #7

This is the LAST assignment you will be submitting to me for marking.

For this assignment, you will be extracting the lady with curly hair from a picture with a white background.

After you have extracted the lady from the background, create a new layer and use the Gradient tool to make a new background. The new background must be dark!!!!! You may need to touch up the ladies hair to get rid of any of the white background. Some tools that might be helpful in touching up: eraser (decrease the opacity), paint brush, history brush.

Required Elements:
  • Lady extracted from white background.
  • New background. Use the Gradient Tool. Background must be dark.
  • Logbook Entry: Must include the new image you have created and an explanation on whether you used any additional tools to remove the white background from the ladies hair.
If you are having problems, come speak to me as soon as possible!

Assignment #6

Hello Students,

For this assignment, we will be creating a billboard advertisement.

Below is an example of what I'm expecting, but your version should be much better than this. See if you can spot the careless mistakes I made.....

The background photograph that I want you to use for this assignment can be found in the Student Share Drive. It is up to you on what you want to place on your billboard, as long as it is advertising something. For example, you could make an advertisement for Ms. McGill's Fantastic Fake Nails or Nate's Totally Delish Cat Food.

Only complete today's tasks, do not move ahead in this assignment. If you finish early, you can work on your personal projects.

Day 1 Tasks:
  1. The background photograph is in the Student Share Drive, it's called Billboard. Brad Pitt and his perfume must be removed from the billboard completely. The lights at the bottom of the billboard must still be visible. You can use the lasso or pen tool to remove the background. Do not use the eraser.
  2. Decide on what your going to be advertising. Start looking for images online that you can use. For the background image, try to find one that is panoramic in shape. Use the advanced search settings in Google Images to help you with this.

Logbook:
  1. Provide a screenshot of your blank billboard.
  2. Give a detailed description of what you will be advertising on your billboard.
  3. Provide a screenshot of any images you found that will be on your billboard.

BE CREATIVE!!!!!

Assignment #4

Hello Students,

If you have not already completed the apple trace and the Pen Tool Exercise (PSDTUTS), please complete those first and then email them in.

Remember, for the PSDTUTS exercise, you must follow the instructions on the picture. Do not manually create the curves with a series of anchor points. Ask for help if you are having problems.

For this week's assignment, you have three options:
  1. Create your own Font using the pen tool.
    • With this assignment option, you may want to find a font online or in Word to trace first. After you have finished tracing you can then add embellishments to each letter. Your embellishments must have a theme. That means that each letter must have some sort of similarity in design.I do not expect you to complete the entire alphabet. If you design a very complicated font, I need to see at least three letters. If you design a less complicated font, I want to see at least ten letters.
    • In your logbooks, I want to see multiple screen shots of your progress. Show me your anchor points! Also, I would like an explanation on your design plans.
  2. Create a piece of Cartoon Clip Art using the pen tool.
    • With this assignment option, you can follow this online tutorial.
    • You don't have to create a penguin, you can create something else instead as long as it is a piece of cartoon clip art.
    • In your logbook entries, show me screen shots of your work including the anchor points. Also, provide an explanation of what you are working on.
  3. Next to Biebs - Place yourself and/or others in an new photograph.
    • If you choose this option, you do NOT have to place yourself next to Justin Bieber if you choose this option. Instead, get creative! This is your chance to show me something unique!
    • You must find a full body photograph of a person (not just his/her head or upper body). Then proceed to create a path around the person using the pen tool. Once you have completed that, you can cut your selection out and place it on another photograph of your choice.
    • After placing the selection in your new photograph, play around with Photoshop tools to manipulate your original selection to fit in the new photograph.
    • In your logbooks, I would like to see your original full body selection including anchor points. Then, I would like to see your new creation along with an explanation about your design process.
    • If you finish this within five minutes.....you know who you are. Choose one of the above assignment options to continue working with the pen tool.

The Pen Tool - Day 2

Today we will be doing another pen tool exercise.

Check out the following link for more information on the pen tool: http://psd.tutsplus.com/tutorials/tools-tips/photoshops-pen-tool-the-comprehensive-guide/

You can find today's assignment in the student drive. It is called "Pen_Tool_The_Exercise".

The Pen Tool - Day 1

Vector vs. Bitmap

The pen tool is important as it allows us to be better able to select paths through the use of anchor points. We are also able to create vector images using this tool, but that it usually done in Illustrator.
